WHAT IS A ACTOR REEL?

As everyone begins gearing up for the 2021 Pilot Season, we wanted to take a moment to explain what a video reel is, and how it can jumpstart your acting career.

A video reel is a collection of memorable acting you’ve done on film. It includes moments that showcase your strengths, as well as your range as an actor. It is important to remember that these are in fact just moments, and not drawn out scenes.
Casting directors look at hundreds of potential actors every day, and part of being memorable is understanding that they aren’t going to watch a ten-minute reel.
They are usually looking for three things: Can you act on film? Do you look the same on film as you do in your headshot? How do you sound?

As you might have guessed by now, your video reel can be the thing that gets you in the room.
It shows the casting director that you have experience acting for film, and if they like what they see they will bring you in for an audition.

Video reels are also helpful when it comes to finding a manager.
It allows them to see what you bring to the table as an actor, which allows them to begin understanding how they can market you to casting directors.

Remember, film is a visual medium, and people want to see what you can do, not just read about it on your resume.
